The Saint Michael Archangel Silhouette Pendant is cut free — there is no backing plate and no frame behind the scene. The outline of the piece is the outline of the figures, wingtip to wingtip and down to the devil’s trailing hand, with open air through every gap. You see straight through between the wings, under the raised arm, and between Michael’s legs and the body beneath him.
The scene is the moment of the strike. Michael stands with both wings fully spread, every feather cut and layered in rows, his sword drawn back over the shoulder and his free hand thrown out for balance. He is in a short military cuirass with a fringed skirt and a cloak falling behind the left leg, all of it carved in folds rather than suggested. A plain disc halo sits behind his head, left smooth as the one quiet surface in the piece.
Beneath him the devil is already down — bat-winged, thrown onto his back, one arm raised in a fist, with Michael’s foot planted on him. The lower figure is carved to the same depth as the upper one, which is what keeps it a scene instead of a base.
The whole body of the pendant is finished in a soft satin. There are no stones on the figure at all — the feathers, folds and faces carry the piece, and polish would only flare across them.
The only diamonds are on the bail, which is a tall two-row pavé post carrying all 18 stones. Its opening is a full 10mm, so this hangs on a heavy chain rather than a thin one.
