The Diamond-Cut Eternal Dragon Rectangular Pendant is built like an ingot — a rounded rectangle with a wide polished border that steps down to a recessed field, so the scene sits protected below the outer edge instead of standing proud of it. It is a quieter build than most of our carved pendants, and the contrast is the point.

The recessed field is cut into fine diamond-cut rays running out from the centre to all four sides. Every one of those lines catches light independently, so the ground behind the dragon never sits still.

The dragon is worked in low relief in a soft satin, its body coiled into a full loop across the field: horned head in profile at the top with the mane and whiskers streaming back, a foreleg raised with the claws spread, the scaled body turning down through the centre, and the tail and fins sweeping out to the lower corner. Every scale is individually cut.

At the centre sits the pearl — a smooth polished dome, deliberately left plain. It is the only undecorated surface inside the frame, and against all the ray-cut movement around it, it reads as the still thing the dragon is reaching for.

The bail is a wide flat polished band that matches the border, keeping the whole piece to two finishes: bright frame, satin dragon.

The dragon pursuing the flaming pearl is one of the oldest motifs in Chinese art. The pearl is wisdom, or fortune, or the thing just out of reach — and the chase, not the catch, is what the image is about.
