Two kinds of fortune sharing one disc.

The Happy Buddha and Dragon Circular Pendant splits the round face down the middle and gives half to each figure. On the left, Budai — the Laughing Buddha — fills his half with the face alone: broad cheeks, eyes closed into deep crescents, a wide open smile, eyebrows cut in fine strands, and long carved earlobes falling to the jaw. His robe sweeps across the lower half in long parallel folds that follow the curve of the disc.

On the right, a dragon takes the remaining half. Its head sits at the top with horns swept back, a mane in fine cut strands, whiskers curling forward and the jaw open, and the scaled body wraps down the right edge with every scale cut individually. A foreleg with spread claws comes forward at the centre where the two figures meet.

Between them the field carries a carved spiral scroll and two smooth polished orbs — left completely plain against all the cut texture, so they catch light where nothing else does.

The finish is satin across the whole face, with polish only in the cut lines and on the orbs. On a piece this small that keeps the detail readable instead of letting it disappear into glare.

Budai is the monk of contentment — fortune that comes from wanting less. The dragon is the opposite kind: power, ambition, fortune that is chased. Putting them on one disc is the whole point of the design.
