The oldest story on the smallest disc we make.
The Serpent in the Tree Circular Pendant is framed by the snake itself. The outer ring is a scaled serpent body running the full circumference, textured scale by scale, and it carries straight on up into the bail — so the fitting is part of the animal rather than a loop soldered to a disc.
Inside that ring the ground drops away to a plain polished field, and it is the only smooth surface on the piece. Every other element is textured, which is what makes the tree read so cleanly against it.
The tree fills the disc: a broad crown cut leaf by leaf, a thick trunk rising from the centre, and a spread of roots below fanning out over a low mound and reaching almost to the frame. Crown and roots take up about the same room, so the composition is balanced top to bottom rather than weighted toward the branches.
The serpent is the reason to look twice. It spirals up the trunk in two full turns and its body carries on through the roots to the right, worked in the same scale texture as the outer ring — so the snake that frames the piece and the snake in the tree read as the same animal.
The finish is satin throughout with the recessed ground left bright, so the tree stands dark against light instead of the usual way round.
A serpent in a tree is one of the images almost every tradition arrived at independently — Eden, Yggdrasil and its gnawing wyrm, the snake that sheds and begins again. The piece does not commit to one of them, which is the point.
Why You’ll Love It:
-
Serpent Frame and Bail – The outer ring and the bail carved as one continuous scaled body
-
Leaf-by-Leaf Crown – The canopy cut individually rather than textured as a mass
-
Full Root System – Roots given as much of the disc as the branches
-
Snake Coiled Up the Trunk – Two full turns, worked in the same scale texture as the frame
-
Bright Recessed Ground – The only polished surface on the piece, so the tree reads sharply against it
-
Solid Gold Throughout – No stones and no plating
Made to order, turnaround time is typically 2-4 weeks.
