The Shark Breaking Through Ring is built on a wide cushion face with clipped corners, and the whole face is treated as a surface the shark has just smashed through. The head comes forward in high relief — snout, brow, gill lines and an open jaw with two full rows of individually cut teeth — while the pectoral fins and tail break the plane on either side. Around the point of impact the field is carved into cracks and scattered debris, so the flat plate reads as something broken rather than something decorated.
The shoulders are stepped in a fluted, watch-band pattern that tapers down into the shank, with the centre links left mirror-polished against the satin. That polish is the only bright work on the ring apart from the shark’s teeth and the edge of its jaw, which is what pulls the eye straight to the bite.
Everything else — face, fins, cracked ground, shoulders — is finished in a fine sandblasted satin so the relief holds its shadow. No stones and no plating; the whole effect comes from depth of carving and the contrast between matte and mirror.
