The Tiger and Dragon Power Pendant is a rectangular plate carved edge to edge in deep high relief, with no flat ground left anywhere on the face. The tiger holds the upper field — head turned out of the plate, brow and ruff cut into heavy strands, mouth open on a full set of teeth, foreleg braced across the centre. The dragon runs beneath and around it: a scaled body coiling out of the left side, a clawed foot with spread talons reaching into the right field, and a horned head with long whiskers and a streaming mane surfacing at the bottom.

The relief is genuinely deep — the two animals sit well proud of the plate, so the piece throws real shadow and reads as sculpture rather than as a stamped face.

Cloud scrollwork fills every margin. Tight spirals run the borders and turn the corners, and a band of rolling cloud closes the bottom edge, which leaves the outline slightly irregular where the carving decides the edge instead of a ruled frame.

The whole face is finished in satin, so the polished highlights land only on the raised edges — the tiger's brow, the dragon's spine, the crest of each cloud. The bail is the one plain element on the piece: a wide flat band left bright and unworked, so nothing competes with the carving.

Tiger and dragon are the oldest pairing in East Asian iconography — wind against rain, earth against sky, two powers that are equals rather than enemies. Worn together they stand for a balance held by force on both sides.
